Plant Now: Delphiniums

Seeds of delphiniums are usually sown from March to June, but don’t let that deter you. Delphinium breeder Terry Dowdeswell says New Zealand’s mild climate means we can sow seed virtually year round. Sow seeds in trays and transplant them into the garden when the seedlings are big enough. Seeds sown this year will also flower this year, typically around November/December, with another flush in February/March. And if you live in a warm spot, you’ll also get a third flush in mid-June. Make sure you feed them well over the growing season. Delphiniums are heavy feeders.
