Fancy foliage fillers

A cut flower garden is all very well, but if you’re in between blooms, it’s the foliage garden that comes into its own. Colourful foliage looks equally striking in a vase – either on its own or rubbing shoulders with one or two flowers. Seed heads work well too, and many of them actually last longer than the flowers. When the petals drop from echinacea blooms, for example, the copper-brown cones that remain behind last for ages. You can see the echinacea cones here in the top design, mixed in with other seed heads, a couple of roses, feathery astilbe plumes and brightly coloured foliage. These gorgeous designs are from the brilliantly talented Sarah Ryhanen of Saipua.
